Biography[]
Nathan Drake, nicknamed Nate, was born Nathan Morgan, probably of American nationality; however, his place of birth is not known. One could think that he has British origins because in the first opus, he himself says he is a descendant of the British explorer Sir Francis Drake; this assertion, already questioned in the 3rd episode, Drake's Deception, is nonetheless clearly contradicted in the last episode. In addition, in the 3rd episode, during a fight, Charlie Cutter tells him "Typically American, all mouth..." which suggests that Drake is indeed American. Later in the game, he will say himself that he is from the United States, when he meets Salim in the Rub' al Khali desert.Nathan became an orphan at a very young age, as his mother, suffering from a serious illness, committed suicide before succumbing to it, and his father abandoned him in his childhood. He grew up in the St. Francis orphanage where nuns taught him Latin, which he eventually left after run-ins with the police; it was also at this time that he took the name Drake. It was in Cartagena, Colombia as a young teenager that he wandered the streets where he met Victor Sullivan, aka Sully, who became his mentor and best friend. With Sully, he made many explorations around the world (Peru, Egypt, Colombia, Montreal), which allowed him to gain experience in adventure; in addition, Sully gave him much advice during these years. Drake was also associated with other people during this time, notably Eddy Raja, an Indonesian mercenary and adventurer, Jason Dante, another treasure hunter, and Harry Flynn, a British adventurer. A short time before his discovery of El Dorado, he met journalist Elena Fisher and began a romantic relationship with her, which led to an initial separation.Drake and Elena got back together at the end of the second opus and then re-separated before the beginning of the third (surely because of Nate's obsession with his ancestor) but at the end of Uncharted 3 he resumed his alliance and reconciled with Elena, whom he married and had a daughter with, Cassie. He also had a romantic relationship with Rika Raja, Eddy Raja's sister, archaeologist Marisa Chase, and the Australian adventurer Chloë Frazer (it seems Drake was the one who broke up with her).
